Our laptop has "corruption caused by a virus". The computer turns on just fine, our saved files, such as photos open just fine. But when we try to open Internet Explorer the window flashes open for a brief second then disappears. We tried to open up our firewall or whatever it is protection program and it does the same thing. Does anybody know of some program or something we can buy and load on ourselves and fix the problem without taking it into a shop?!?!? Anything you say will be news to us and helpful since this is all we know!! HELP!!

2 people gave their 2 cents:
YUCK! I got a HUGE virus the other month and it took EVERYTHING down. I now know that there exists a special place in HELL for virus creators!
I had to take mine into a local place and get it fixed. It took almost three weeks, BUT they only cost $45 dollars compared to The Geek Squads $200 JUST TO LOOK AT IT.
HOWEVER, when I got it back they had downloaded some software that not only checks my computer for viruses, but fixes them and also makes the laptop run faster . . . AND IT'S FREE! AND better than Norton Anti-virus!
SO, you have to get it online . . . (I would suggest downloading on another computer and trying to burn the program and the setup .exe file onto a disk) then upload it on your laptop.
The two programs are AVG Free (this is the anti virus) and Glary Utilities (cleans your computer files). You can program both of them to run daily. They have worked great for me. Make sure you get the FREE versions. They work great
AVG and Malware is what we run on ours daily. My dad builds and fixes computers and that's what he recommends to use... just be careful when downloading anything, and make sure if it finds programs that are causing problems, you have to go to the control panel and remove it from the computer... hope that helps!
